Rio Grande Turkey HuntGrand Slam Hunts by Tim Herald Outdoors, Wild Turkey Hunts
Rio Grande turkeys are famous for providing hunters with exciting hunts packed with lots of gobbling. Tim is currently booking hunts with outfitters in Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma that are sure to provide hunters with the kind of Rio hunts they have always dreamed of. Tim has hunted out many turkey camps in Texas and Oklahoma, but he has picked these because he believes them to be the highest quality operations out there, and that is what he is committed to providing for his clients.

These hunts are conducted on large private ranches with very limited hunting pressure. There is an extraordinary amount of Rio Grande turkeys on these ranches and hunters will have no problem getting into birds. Each hunter has a large area to hunt, and camp size is kept small to insure a quality experience.

Rio Grande Hunting Options:

Option #1: Texas Eastern Panhandle Rio Grande Hunt
This is a very exciting package from Tim Herald Outdoors. Hunters will hunt Multiple ranches covering tens of thousands of acres Texas Panhandle. The turkey numbers on these properties are incredible with the birds being concentrated around suitable roost habitat and creek bottoms. Tim hunted here in 2006 and took a gobbler with a bow and one with a gun - but missed 2 more with a bow. That was with terrible weather!

Grand Slam Hunts by Tim Herald Outdoors, Wild Turkey HuntsFor the past 4 years., virtually everyone has taken their two birds. In 2006 only one hunter didn't score, but he had to cut his trip to 1 day because of an emergency at home. This hunt is for mature Rio Grande longbeards and is 2x1 or semi-guided. The outfitter will guide 2 people personally, and if there are more in the group that are confident hunters, he will get them into a core area that birds use, and then let them hunt. He will show you travel routes, roosts, etc. There is a year round supplemental feeding program on the properties, but this is not a "sit over a feeder turkey hunt". Evident by last spring's success, if hunters listen to the outfitter, they will come home with birds.

This is a 3 day/2 bird hunt for $1250 and hunters stay in a historic lodge. All food is included in the hunt price as well as pickup at the Amarillo airport which is about 1 hour and 15 minutes away. This is a hunt that Tim feels is as high quality as you will find. He has hunted whitetail, mule deer and turkeys with this outfitter, and plans to be back in camp to hunt with him every year.

Quite a few of these hunts are already booked from repeat clients, so call soon for the fantastic pricing and availability. This is a Rio hunt you don't want to miss out on.

Option #2: Western Oklahoma Rio Grande Hunt
This outfitter hunts turkeys on over 40,000 acres of prime rolling hills, creek bottoms and canyon lands in western Oklahoma. The turkey population is extremely high as they hunt the 5 top turkey counties in the state. Success rates average over 1.8 birds per hunter on a 2 bird hunt. Tim filmed an episode of LimbSaver Outdoors here in 2006 and was very impressed with the numbers of birds.

This is a 1x1 guided hunt, and most of the guides are pro staffers for call companies and competition trkey callers. they are a great group of guys and hunters. The hunting is great in the early season, but it actually gets better as season progresses. There are so many birds and ranches and so little pressure, the birds just keep working.

Lodging is provided in a house in town, and the big evening meal (often a cookout) is included. breakfast and lunch are the hunter's responsibility. The Oklahoma City airport is about 2 hours away. The cost for this great hunt is $1000 for 3 days and 2 birds. Tim feels this is a great value as it is competitively priced anyway, but it is very unusual to find a Rio hunt where each hunter has a guide at their disposal. A 3rd gobbler may be taken for a trophy fee, but this must be agree upon at booking. This is a fantastic hunt with fantastic people. You can bet Tim will be back in this camp.

Option #3: Texas Hill Country Rio Grande HuntGrand Slam Hunts by Tim Herald Outdoors, Wild Turkey Hunts
Tim has connections on various high quality turkey properties throughout the Texas hill country. He has securedhunts on a 3,700 acre ranch near El Dorado, TX. This is for turkey hunters, and with a group of 3-5 people, you will have the ranch to yourself. There are tons of gobblers on the place, andthe outfitter will pick you up at the SanAngelo airport and drive you to camp. They will also provide field transportation and show you where the birds are and use on the property. Then you can take off and hunt as you want. Lodging is in a new 1200 sq foot house, and most hunts include food and lodging. The 2 bird hunt ranges between $1000 to $1350, but additional birds may be added at discounted rates with a TX limit of 4 gobblers. Other options include semi to fully guided packages. For more information give Tim a call right away because these hunts book quickly!

OPTION #4: Kansas full service Rio Grande Hunt
This is a full service package including airport pickup in Wichita, food, lodging and guides if desired. The outfitter hunts on 20,000 acres of prime turkey ground and 4 out of 5 years in a row has had 100% success on the two bird limit. No one in 5 years has gone away without a gobbler. The Wichita airport is only 45 minutes away and there is no charge for pickup service. Lodging is in nice farm houses, and meals are super. If a hunter wants a guide, one will be provided, but for those who prefer to be put in the birds and "let go", that is fine as well. This outfitter aims to please and will take care of all your needs. The cost for a full 3 day - 2 gobbler hunt is $950. Everything is included except your KS license and tags. Season runs from mid April until the end of May. This truly is a fantastic KS hunt.
